Jaime C. Revenga, postdoc

Newly employed

Jaime was employed on 1 February 2026 with a Danish Data Science Academy (DDSA) postdoctoral grant at the department’s section for Statistics and Probability Theory.

Jaime C. Revenga

Jaime was born in Madrid (Spain) and has been trained and worked in different institutions in France, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark. His background is on geospatial machine learning, remote sensing of the environment and ecosystem analysis.

For the next two years, he will be working on the INFOSCO Project to model tree-level carbon metabolic pathways and atmosphere-biosphere carbon interactions.

“During my PhD (2020-2023) at IGN - the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen - I developed methods to predict biomass in crops and forests from airborne laser instrumentation and regression models tailored to the task. My thesis, “UAV-LiDAR and machine learning methods for above-ground biomass and carbon stock prediction in forests and croplands”, was supervised by Professor Thomas Friborg, Assistant Professor Katerina Trepekli, Assistant Professor Stefan Oehmcke, Professor Christian Igel and Professor Fabian Gieseke”,  says Jaime.

He has previously been employed as a PhD Fellow at IGN Geosciences (2020-2023), Postdoctoral Researcher at Aarhus University, Dept. of Biology (2023-2024), and at IGN Geosciences (2025).

His core research interests today revolve around the following four topics:

  • Statistical modelling of ecosystem physiology,
  • Structural and spectral remote sensing of the environment,
  • Self-supervised learning methods applied to imaging spectroscopy,
  • Group behaviour modelling in ecology (e.g., mean field games),

His extended research interests include the areas Degrowth, Modern history, and Linguistics.

“Here at UCPH MATH, I will be working under the supervision of Prof. Bo Markussen and Prof. Susanne Ditlevsen”, says Jaime.

“Outside of the university, I find my natural space practising capoeira and (Brazilian, Spanish) folk music, mountain sports, or sharing my time in self-organised community kitchen projects”.

You can meet Jaime in office 04.0.11.
