Brian Harvie, postdoc

Newly employed

Brian was employed at the Department’s section for Algebra & Geometry as of 1st October 2025.

Brian Harvie

Brian was born and raised in the United States. He received his PhD from the University of California, Davis under the supervision of Professor Adam Jacob in 2021, and has since held postdoctoral positions at National Taiwan University (Taiwan) and Columbia University (USA).

Brian is a member of the Copenhagen Centre for Geometry and Topology under the mentorship of Niels Martin Møller. His research interests lie at the intersection of differential geometry, partial differential equations, and mathematical physics.

One of the goals of his research is to understand inverse mean curvature flow (IMCF), which is a rule for expanding surfaces in a Riemannian manifold over time according to their curvature. Another recent research project is the application of IMCF to mathematical problems in general relativity, with a focus on classifying black hole solutions to the Einstein field equations. This research project appears to have further connections to the famous ADS/CFT correspondence in physics, and this interplay represents a potential future direction for his research.

Outside of math, Brian is an avid runner, lifter, and occasional hiker.
