Ahcène Boubekki is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, affiliated since September 2025 with the Section for Statistics and Probability and the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

Ahcène Boubekki

Ahcène's research lies at the intersection of machine learning, representation learning, and explainable AI. His work aims to uncover the computational mechanisms underlying the capabilities of deep neural networks, thereby improving our understanding of how complex models process information and advancing the scientific study of their internal representations.

Before taking his current position, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Berlin, Germany. Before that, he was a member of the Machine Learning Group at the University of lovely Tromsø in northern Norway. He has fond memories of this time, which he likes to recount while skiing up and down mountains.

Ahcène’s academic background is rooted in mathematics: he obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees at the Sorbonne University, Paris, studying the beauties of complex geometry.
