Aleksei Kulikov awarded the Viggo Brun Prize
Every second year a Norwegian Mathematician is awarded the Viggo Brun prize, awarded by The Norwegian Mathematical Society. Many congratulations to Aleksei Kulikov from MATH, who is this year’s awardee.
The Viggo Brun Prize has been established by the Norwegian Mathematical Society and is awarded to young Norwegian mathematicians for outstanding research in mathematics, including mathematical aspects of information technology, mathematical physics, numerical analysis, and computational science.
Aleksei was surprised, very pleased and didn't expect the award at all, he says. "I've only just turned 28 and the limit for awardees is 37, so it is a great honor to receive the Viggo Brun prize "already" if one can put it this way".
Aleksei has not yet decided what the very nice sum of 50.000 NOK will be spent on – but an idea is (perhaps) emerging: "I have to admit that I haven't seen the fjords of Norway yet, being busy with my PhD in the years I lived there. Many of my friends have recommended me to go and see them at least once in my life, so it is definitely on my bucket list!".
The prize is awarded every second year. The laureate receives a diploma made by the Finnish designer Eero Astala. The diploma is adorned by the logo of the prize and a figure taken from Viggo Brun's article on Leibniz's formula for 𝜋.
