Stability in Group Theory and Operator Algebras
University of Copenhagen
November 25-28, 2019
Stability of group relations has the following general form: Given ε>0, is there δ>0 so that whenever some generators satisfy the relations up to δ, they may be replaced by generators satisfying the relations exactly, each perturbed no more than ε from the original? Such questions have been carefully studied in several areas of mathematics with different objects and different notions of distance, and with somewhat different answers for the same group in the different arenas of study, but with many common traits as well.
We aim to bring together researchers from relevant active areas studying stability from different viewpoints to share methods and ideas that are transferable, and to understand better why other methods and ideas are not.

The workshop will take place at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. See detailed instructions on how to reach Copenhagen and the conference venue.
Tickets and passes for public transportation can be bought at the Copenhagen Airport and every train or metro station. You can find the DSB ticket office on your right-hand side as soon as you come out of the arrival area of the airport. DSB has an agreement with 7-Eleven, so many of their shops double as selling points for public transportation.
A journey planner in English is available.
More information on the "find us" webpage.
Speakers will stay at WakeUp Borgergade. We kindly ask other participants to arrange their own accommodation. We note that because of Wind Europe Offshore 2019 many hotels may be booked, and hence arrangements should be made as early as possible.
We generally recommend Hotel 9 Små Hjem, which is pleasant and inexpensive and offers rooms with a kitchen. Other inexpensive alternatives are CabInn, which has several locations in Copenhagen: the Hotel City (close to Tivoli), Hotel Scandivania (Frederiksberg, close to the lakes), and Hotel Express (Frederiksberg) are the most convenient locations; the latter two are 2.5-3 km from the math department. Somewhat more expensive – and still recommended – options are Hotel Nora and Ibsen's Hotel.
We can regrettably only provide financial support for speakers.
The list of participants will be published here.
