Title: Uniform Roe algebras and asymptotic dimension 

Abstract: We will give a general introduction to uniform Roe algebras of uniformly locally finite spaces, focusing on the case of countable discrete groups. We will briefly go through the history of the recently solved rigidity questions of these spaces before delving into the topic of asymptotic dimension and the question of how this is detected at the level of the C*-algebra. Time permitting, I will report on on-going work about ideals in uniform Roe algebras that also involves asymptotic dimension and other geometric and combinatorial properties of subsets of groups.
