Title: Under Ricci flow, a 3-torus goes flat

Abstract: There are still quite a few open questions about how Ricci flow behaves on compact three dimensional manifolds. For example, if the manifold admits a locally homogeneous Riemannian metric, can we say that the canonical Ricci flow starting from any initial metric has a locally homogeneous limit? I will answer this when the manifold fibers over a circle with torus fibers.

14:15-14:45:

Tea/coffee/cookies

[Room: Aud 07]

Speaker: Bruce Kleiner

Title: Rigidity and flexibility of mappings between Carnot groups

Abstract: We discuss recent progress on bilipschitz and quasisymmetric mappings between Carnot groups.  Motivation for studying such mappings comes from geometric group theory, geometric mapping theory, analysis on metric spaces, and PDE.

This is based on joint work with Stefan Muller, Xiangdong Xie, and Laszlo Szekelyhidi.

Speakers & participants will go for dinner afterwards - ask Niels Martin for details.
