Title: When Algebraic Topology meets Glass Chemistry
Abstract: A vast amount of spatial data is being generated from simulations. The data can be atoms with their type (Oxygen, Lithium,..) and 3d-coordinates. This allows a study of connections between the composition of the material and its properties without actually producing it in the lab. We will see how Topological Data Analysis provides information to glass chemistry via such computer generated data. We will give examples of some of the new ideas needed on the mathematics side; in particular how we may improve batteries by understanding - and defining - the formation of tunnels through which e.g. Lithium ions may traverse a backbone material. Along the way, we will encounter a 3-torus - the simulation of materials with periodic boundary condition.
