Title: Extreme values of toric periods on locally symmetric spaces

Abstract: On compact arithmetic locally symmetric spaces of non-compact type, the compact maximal flat submanifolds correspond to maximal R-split tori of the underlying group. This talk is about the average and maximal size of automorphic periods along these compact flats, in the spectral aspect. I will explain the connection and analogy with extreme values of L-functions, and discuss the local problems in an application of the relative pre-trace formula.

The talk will be exclusively on Zoom. To receive the Zoom link, please contact one of the organizers if you are not on our Number Theory Seminar mailing list.
