TITLE: Reward Distributions for Semi-Markov Processes and Some Applications
ABSTRACT:
Markov chains and semi-Markov processes are widely used stochastic models in applications. Most applications require the computation of relevant probabilities associated with special functionals over the trajectories of the corresponding Markov model. A large class of such functionals is known in the literature under the name reward functions. They embrace most, if not all, special cases of functionals treated in the literature.
In this talk we will discuss a general approach for deriving explicit closed-form solutions for the distributions of reward functions on Markov chains and semi-Markov processes and their suitability for implementing computation of relevant probabilities. Also we will present an application in Genetics on the evaluation of relevant probabilities concerning the genetic material shared identically by descent by related individuals.
Tea and chocolate will be served in room 04.3.15 after the seminar.
