Title: Compactly supported cohomology theories of varieties and six-functor formalisms

Abstract: In the first part of this talk I will introduce a result about the existence of compactly supported versions of cohomology theories of varieties. In the second part of the talk I will discuss a version of Mann’s infinity-categorical definition of six-functor formalisms. We will see that a certain class of six-functor formalisms, those which have recollements, can be considered a higher categorical analogue of compactly supported cohomology. As a result, we show that such a six-functor formalism can be recovered from its restriction to complete varieties.
