Experimental Mathematics Colloquium
Speaker: Steen Markvorsen (DTU)
Ttitle: A Finsler geometric attack on wildfires
This experiment began 10 years ago with the formulation of an exercise in vector analysis for first year calculus students at DTU.
In the talk we will explain and illustrate how this exercise over the years then inspired a surprising application of Finsler geometry, which has recently been reported in this article.
At the end of the talk we finally present a very general result about rheonomic Lagrange manifolds which is needed for the proper analysis of wildfires in time-dependent fuel domains.
