Seminar in applied mathematics and statistics
SPEAKER: Lars Nørvang Andersen (Aarhus)
TITLE: Stochastic modelling of gene trees and mutation processes.
Abstract: In this talk, I will present a range of stochastic models for gene trees and mutation processes and associated applications. Using the classical Kingman's coalescent model as a point of departure, I will describe how to formulate such models in a general continuous time Markov chain framework, and I will discuss how different model assumptions lead to different computational tasks. A recurring hurdle in practical calculations is state-space explosion, and I will demonstrate how to approach this issue using lumpability.
Tea and chocolate will be served in room 04.4.19 after the seminar.
