Title: Computing stable homotopy groups of spheres - two methods.
Abstract:
In this talk, I will describe recent progress in computing stable stems, using two new methods. Both give ways to compute differentials and extensions in the Adams spectral sequences. The first is designed to prove a single differential or extension left by other methods. The second is more systematic, but, as with every known method, it still leaves leftover problems that must be solved by other methods. I will discuss a program (with D. Isaksen and G. Wang) for using these methods to solve the last open case, dimension 126, of the Kervaire invariant problem.
