Trine Krogh Boomsma, professor
The Dean has appointed Trine Krogh Boomsma as Professor of Operations Research at the Department for Mathematical Sciences, UCPH, from 1 January 2025.

Trine Krogh Boomsma (TKB) has since 2012 been employed as an associate professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. She received her PhD from Aarhus University in 2007. During her scientific career, TKB held positions at Risø National Laboratory, Imperial College, and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
“Trine expresses a clear motivation and devotion to contribute to a better world with her research. More concretely, her research bridges energy systems and markets, that is, technology and finance”, says Head of Department Mogens Steffensen.
TKB mainly works on developing operations research and game theory methodologies for sustainable power systems and has strong expertise in stochastic optimization. This research has appeared in leading journals in Operations Research, as well as journals in the field of Energy.
Contributes to the green transition
In advancing the green transition, coupling different markets requires careful analysis and decision support. TKB has taken international leadership in this research very early on. TKB has also significantly contributed to integer linear programming and Multi-Objective Optimization literature. Recently, some of her efforts have been devoted to the intersection of Reinforcement Learning and Dynamic Programming, and the results have been applied in maritime applications.
In her research, TKB has established strong industry collaborations. She presents a close interaction with Maersk on problems within shipping and transport.
Engaging teacher and supervisor
TKB is an experienced lecturer, teaching at both the bachelor and master levels and in the research education of PhDs. She offers general courses in Operations Research and more specialized ones, such as Stochastic Programming. She actively engages her students during lectures, and their feedback reflects her success in this approach. In addition to lecturing courses, TKB is an experienced PhD supervisor.
TKB has been involved in counsels and committees, holding several administrative roles, including Union representative, vice chair of the Collaboration Committee, member of the Research Committee, member of the Diversity Committee, vice chair of the Department Faculty Board, and postdoc coordinator in Applied Mathematics.
