What is SEST?

In order to further the integration of non-permanent scientific staff members at the Department of Basic Sciences and Environment — and to stimulate socialization and exchange of ideas — all staff members at IGM are invited to a social event with a scientific twist the first Friday of every month.

Programme

In 2011/2012 the programme for each social event with a scientific twist will roughly be as follows:

14:00–14:30   Popularized scientific talk (preferably by a non-permanent staff member)
14:30–15:00   Questions from the audience + socialization and beverages (at IGM's expense)

About the popularized scientific talk

The research groups at IGM take turns, according to the calendar below, to appoint one of its (non-permanent) members to give a 30 minutes talk on the relevant Friday. The head of each group is responsible for finding a speaker. Please notify the organizers (see below) once a speaker has been appointed. We encourage speakers to give their talks in English, and to follow the list below:

  (1)   Present yourself (your name; the research group you are part of; when you started at IGM etc.).
  (2)   Present your topic (you could, for example, talk about your research or your experiments).
Please keep in mind that you are addressing a general audience and not experts!
  (3)   Explain why you find your topic interesting.
  (4)   Explain why others might find your topic interesting or how it can be applied.
  (5)   Explain the future perspectives of your topic (where are you going from here?)

Calendar

Slides have been made public by the speaker's consent.
