Poul Heegaard is born in Copenhagen.
1883-89:
Student at Metropolitanskolen (secondary school in Copenhagen).
1889-93:
Student in mathematics at the University of Copenhagen completed by a magisterkonferens in mathematics.
1893-94:
Heegaard is staying in Paris and Göttingen to study.
1894-:
Teacher at some secondary schools.
1898:
Doctoral dissertation in topology at the University of Copenhagen.
1898-1910:
Teacher at naval and military academies in Copenhagen.
1910-17:
Professor in mathematics at the University of Copenhagen.
1918-41:
Professor in mathematics at the University of Christiania (Oslo), Norway.
1948:
Heegaard dies in Oslo.

Heegaard was elected to the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters in 1960 and to the Academy of the Technical Sciences in 1963.
