Welcome

Welcome to this Symbolic Dynamic Systems web site. The site has been developed as part of my Master Thesis in mathematics at the University of Copenhagen.

The site is an interface to query a database, in which I have stored a large amount of strong shift equivalence relations between shifts of finite type, and a set of invariants on these as well. The purpose was to determine how good the invariants are for strong shift equivalence.

The database contains all irreducible 2×2 matrices with nonnegative integral entries summing up to at most 25, and all 3×3 matrices with entries summing up to 15, which are strong shift equivalent to the 2×2 matrices. You can get more information on the development of the database and the more technical aspects of the programs used.

The mathematical theory used on this site is documented in my Master Thesis. The examples in the Master Thesis have all been found in the database.

The mathematical content of this site has been written with full extent of the HTML 4 definition. This especially means, that the math is typeset with codes and fonts, which not all browsers support. The free browser Mozilla does, and can be recommended.

Use the menu bar on the right to navigate, and I hope you will enjoy the site.
