Recommended reading, notes, references etc.

Reference works

• The monograph "Elements of Information Theory" by Cover and Thomas (Wiley 1991) is a standard reference.
• The teaching monograph "Communication Theory" by Goldie and Pinch (Cambridge University Press, 1991) may, however, be more attractive to you (considering also the price).
• "A First Course in Information Theory" by Yeung (Kluwer, 2002) aspires to become the new standard reference. Regarding our course perhaps not optimal.
• My own "Informationsteori" (Gyldendal, 1973 - german translation by Teubner 19xx) is the cheapest buy, but limited in scope (content will be covered in the first lecture or so).

Other sources

I am not sure I will include a lot of material here. Perhaps you may be interested in having a look at the following lecture notes from last time I gave a similar course (ps), or the same (pdf). It points to various areas such as cryptology, communication theory, applications to probability and statistics etc.
