Textile Systems

Textile systems provide a powerful set of tools that allow us to better understand the automorphisms and endomorphisms of a subshift of finite type and in some cases, even subshift identify the automorphism. Inspired by an example of Nasu in which different expansive components of an automorphism exhibit drastically different behavior, we have built machinery to create and analyze textile systems.

In this talk, we will introduce textile systems, use Nasu's example to demonstrate some of the algorithms used to find these interesting properties, and discuss the search for other examples with similar behavior along with connections to open problems in symbolic dynamics.
