Experimental Mathematics
in Number Theory, Operator Algebras, and Topology

The project will attempt to advance three independent, but neighboring, areas of mathematical research (number theory, operator algebras, and topology) by systematic experimentation using the most powerful grids of computers in Denmark and drawing on the highest computer scientific expertise to develop algorithms and methods in active collaboration with leading mathematicians in the three areas. Recent development of hard- and software in combination with the unique theoretical expertise present in Copenhagen and neighboring universities at Odense and Lund give us what we see as exceptional opportunities for creating significant breakthroughs both in mathematics and computer science.

Experimental mathematics seminar

We have a seminar every third week dedicated to talks about the experimental investigation of mathematics. We are open to all mathematical subjects, and to talks ranging from descriptions of finished experiments to presentations of open problems that could be interesting to investigate experimentally.

Experimental mathematics?

Experimental mathematics is the modus operandi of using computers for generating insight into pure mathematics.
