Young Topologists Meeting 2012
The 2012 Young Topologists Meeting took place at the University of Copenhagen July 2–6, 2012. The meeting was intended as an opportunity for graduate students, recent PhDs, and other junior researchers in topology to meet each other and share their work. In addition to short talks by the participants, the program for the meeting included lectures by Søren Galatius (Stanford) and Michael Hopkins (Harvard).
Notes for Søren Galatius's and Michael Hopkins's lectures will appear here. You may also be interested in having a look at Aaron Mazel-Gee's set of notes which includes notes for many of the other talks as well.
Hopkins: Equivariant stable homotopy theory
Galatius: Homology of moduli spaces of manifolds
The conference will take place at the H. C. Ørsted Institute (Universitetsparken 5), the building complex that houses the math department (map). Registration will be in the lobby of the H. C. Ørsted Institute, and talks will take place in Auditoriums 2 and 4.
Getting around and finding your way
We have made a conference map highlighting points of interest to the participants of the conference. Often, walking is the easiest way to get around – for example, 9 Små Hjem Thorsgade, 9 Små Hjem Classensgade and Cabinn Scandinavia are all within walking distance from the math department. For planning trips with public transportation, such as how to get from the airport to your hotel, we recommend Rejseplanen. Alternatively, you may search for directions with Google maps, which knows about public transportation in Copenhagen. For instructions on how to use the public transportation system, please consult the math department's visitor information page.
On Wednesday afternoon, we will go on a sightseeing tour on a boat, after which we will divide into smaller groups for various other activities. These include:
- The Tivoli amusement park (people in charge: Tim De Laat and Hannes Thiel)
- The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Ilya Grigoriev and Anssi Lahtinen)
- Statens Museum for Kunst, the National Gallery of Denmark (Mauricio Gomez Lopez)
- The David Collection museum (Toke Nørgård-Sørensen)
- GL Strand Museum (Daniela Egas)
- A trip to the freetown of Christiania (Kristian Moi)
- Hanging out in the Kongens Have park (Emanuele Dotto)
- Hanging out on the Amager Strand beach (only if the weather is nice) (Angela Klamt)
To sign up for one of these activities, please write your name on the appropriate sign-up sheet in the auditorium where the talks take place.
The conference dinner will be on Thursday. Please use this form to let us know if you will participate in the dinner. The deadline for filling out the form is June 13.
Public viewing of the football final on July 1st
We will meet and watch the European Championship football final together at a public viewing.
When: July 1st at 19:00
Where: At Nørreport Station, at the beginning of the pedestrian street at the entrance of Danske Bank (marked in the conference map).
From there we will go to Kongens Have to watch the game. It is not allowed to bring food or drinks into the public viewing area.
Here is a list of registered participants of the conference.
We will be able to provide free accommodation for a large number of participants. See below. In addition, it is possible to apply for some support for other local expenses. Preference will be given to those without access to other sources of funding. The meeting is sponsored by the Centre for Symmetry and Deformation.
We can offer free accommodation for approximately 60 participants from July 1 to July 7 in hotel apartments at Hotel 9 Små Hjem. The apartments are located on Thorsgade and Classensgade near the math department. Breakfast is not included, but this map contains information about bakeries and grocery stores.
Accommodation will be provided on a first come, first served basis. If you have a preferred roommate, you are welcome to give their name on the registration form.
You may also book a room at Hotel 9 Små Hjem yourself, but in that case you will not be covered by our funding. For alternative places to stay, please see this list.
The registration deadline was April 15.
