PhD stipends at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen
A number of PhD stipends in mathematics, statistics, insurance mathematics, and mathematical finance are available. To apply for any of these stipends you must have received a Master's Degree (or an equivalent degree), or expect to receive such a degree preferably no later than 1 February 2010. The starting time for the stipends is the spring of 2010.
The Ph.D. stipends include full tuitions and a salary of approximately 3,150 EUR per month (2008 level) before taxes (approximately 2000 EUR per month after taxes). The stipends run for 3 years.
In order for your application to be given full attention, your application and all supporting documents should be submitted no later than 1 January 2010.
About the Department of Mathematical Sciences
The department has 40 permanent scientific staff members; more than 20 PhD students and 15 postdocs. It has strong research groups in many areas of mathematics, and an active Ph.D, postdoc and visitor's programme. Our building is located 2-3 kilometers from the center of Copenhagen in
an urban setting and next to a large public park. You can find more information about the department on its homepage .
Research Groups
All PhD students at our department must be affiliated with one of our 6 research groups: Algebra and Number Theory, Geometric Analysis and Mathematical Physics, Mathematical and Statistical Methods in Insurance and Economy, Non-commutative Geometry, Statistics and Probability Theory and Topology. About your application
To apply for one of the vacant PhD stipends you must fill the online form below, AND you must also send by email to phdapply@math.ku.dk the following:
- CV (max one page)
- Research statement describing your current and future interests (1-2 pages)
- Print-out of obtained grades (from your university degree(s))
Write your name in the subject line, and attach the required documents as pdf files, preferably just one file.
You must list names of 2-3 recommenders, who can write letters of support for you. The recommenders should send their letters (preferable as a pdf document) to the email address phdapply@math.ku.dk stating your name in the subject line. We also need your supporting letters before 1 January 2010.
In the online application form below you can give the name of your preferred (and secondary) adviser, if you have one in mind. This is optional. You must list the research group to which you belong most closely (and you can give a secondary one if you wish). (See the list of research groups above.)
Interview
Selected applicants will be asked to visit our department for an informal interview on Friday 22 January, 2010. The department will cover all (reasonable) expenses in connection with the interview. Those candidates called for an interview, will be notified no later than 13 January.
