PhD stipends at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen

A number of attractive PhD stipends in mathematics, statistics, insurance mathematics, and mathematical finance are available. The starting date for the stipends is the fall of 2012 (or earlier). Candidates are expected to have obtained a Master's degree, or an equivalence thereof, before starting. The stipends run for 3 years, which is the duration of the Ph.D. programme. You can find more information about the Ph.D. program on the homepage http://www.math.ku.dk/english/programmes/ph.d/.

The Ph.D. stipends include full tuitions and a salary of approximately 3,350 EUR per month before taxes (DKK 300,174 per year) plus pension contributions of 17% of the salary (DKK 41,013 per year).

Your application and all supporting documents must be submitted no later than 2 January, 2012.

About the Department of Mathematical Sciences

The department has 40 permanent scientific staff members; 40 Ph.D. students and 15 postdocs. It has strong research groups in many areas of mathematics, and active Ph.D, postdoc and visitor's programmes. Our building is located in central Copenhagen next to the central park Fælledparken. You can find more information about the department on its homepage http://www.math.ku.dk/english/.

Research Groups

All PhD students at our department must be affiliated with one of our 6 research groups: Algebra and Number Theory, Geometric Analysis and Mathematical Physics, Mathematical and Statistical Methods in Insurance and Economics, Non-commutative Geometry, Statistics and Probability Theory and Topology. You can find description of each of these groups by clicking on the link, or you can access the department research homepage. Several of the stipends will be connected to the Centre for Symmetry and Deformation, and candidates with research interests related to the center are particularly encouraged to apply.

You are welcome to contact any member of the department to discuss specific research projects.
