Mathematician admitted to The Young Academy

Appointment

The Young Academy, created by the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences, has just admitted nine new members, all of which are excellent, young researchers within their field of study. One of these is Elisenda Feliu, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The Young AcademiThe Young Academy is a new scientific forum for young, talented researchers within all branches of science. Members are awarded a five-year membership and eight new members are admitted each year. This year 65 researchers applied for the eight seats.

The purpose of The Young Academy is to strengthen basic research and interdisciplinary exchange, bridging the gap between science and society - and provide some of the country's brightest young scientists a voice in public. The members are all prominent profiles with strong international experience and interesting views on science and society.

Elisenda Feliu is one of the leading forces behind the research group "Mathematics of reaction networks" that focuses on the development of mathematical theory to analyse mathematical models that arise from the study of systems of (bio) chemical reactions.

Elisenda FeliuElisenda welcomes the membership of The Young Academy:

"I have great interest in learning researchers in Denmark to know and I’m curious to get insight into what they are working with. I hope that this interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge leads to new partners in areas that I do not know at the moment. I hope I can contribute to the discussions and activities of the Academy on the basis of my role as a mathematician, woman and foreigner in the Danish academic environment. I will also use the Academy to strengthen and consolidate my professional network in Denmark and my attachment to Danish research environments."

Elisenda Feliu has a bachelor, master and doctoral degree from the University of Barcelona, where she also has a master degree in Bioinformatics. She was 2010-12 employed as a postdoc at the Bioinformatics Research Centre, University of Aarhus, and worked in 2012-13 as a postdoc at the Department for Mathematical Sciences, UCPH, where she is currently an assistant professor.
