TITLE: Some ideas on generative classifiers

ABSTRACT: In this talk we will discuss algebraic and geometric aspects of generative binary classifiers over discrete predictors variables. We will firstly present some first results on the polynomial representation of Bayesian network classifiers and some extensions to multi-label chain classifiers. We will then present some ongoing results on generative classifiers under Markov assumptions. We prove that every conditional  independence statement holding in the underlying probability is equivalent to a  set of linear equivalences for the induced discrimination function. Moreover we prove that the former is equivalent to the odds ratios of the conditional probabilities given the class values being identical. We will then address the problems of the maximum-likelihood estimation for generative classifiers.

Tea and chocolate will be served in room 04.4.19 after the seminar.
