Søren Wengel Mogensen, PhD student at SPT

Newly employed

Søren Wengel Mogensen is employed as a PhD student in the section for Statistics and Probability Theory as of December 1, 2016. He is a part of the research project “Causal inference with incomplete data” headed by Niels Richard Hansen.

Søren Wengel MogensenSøren will work on causality for dynamical systems. Often in applications a complete dynamical system cannot be observed and therefore an objective of the research project is to develop methods for learning causal structure in the presence of e.g. latent stochastic processes. This would allow the researcher to answer causal questions such as what happens under a specific intervention in the system. Modeling neuronal activity is one possible application of such methods as it is infeasible to observe all neurons simultaneously.

Søren completed his master's degree in August 2016 at MATH/UCPH. His master's thesis was advised by Niels Richard Hansen who will also be his PhD adviser. The topic of the thesis was so-called maximin effects and their estimation. Since defending his thesis, Søren has been a research assistant at the department.

Søren can be found in office 04.3.20.
