Laura Mančinska, associate professor at QMATH

Newly employed

The Dean has appointed Laura Mančinska as associate professor in Mathematical Physics and Quantum Information Theory at the Department of Mathematical Sciences. She will be affiliated with the Villum Centre for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory (QMATH).

Laura MančinskaLaura holds a PhD degree in Quantum Information from the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization at the University of Waterloo, Canada (advisors: Andrew Childs and Debbie Leung). She comes from a position as Senior Research Associate at University of Bristol, which is her second post-doctoral position, after Centre for Quantum Technologies in Singapore.

Laura is originally from Latvia, where she did her undergraduate degree in computer science.

Laura’s research falls, broadly speaking, within the area of quantum information and computing, a field formed at the intersection of mathematics, computer science, and physics. She has collaborated with people from all of these three major sciences on projects with very different focuses.

- Laura Mančinska is bringing an exciting breadth of research interests supported by an excellent track record to this department, says Professor Jan Philip Solovej from QMATH.

- Her research record shows excellent cross-disciplinary mobility across computer science, mathematics, and physics. She has also worked on automata theory and bioinformatics.

- Laura Mančinska is well known in the international Quantum Information research community, with very good international visibility and reputation. She has a strong research record for her early career stage and has demonstrated an impressive versatility and creative breadth of research, a special strength for quantum information research in view of the subject’s broad cross-disciplinary nature.
